20 tooth four bolt chainring replacing the 22 tooth chainring.

You will gain another ten percent of power from these two teeth less.

Stambecco fits to all usual four bolt cranks, such as f.e. Shimano XTR , Shimano XT, LX, SLX, Saint … or other common cranks made by FSA, RaceFace, Truvativ a.s.o.
Important limitation: Since 2016 there are Shimano-cranks available with unequally spaced bolt holes at the bolt circles. The stambecco cannot be used for such cranks. If you want to use the 20z, you have to make sure to combine it with a crank which has evenly spaced bolt holes. Otherwise - with unequally spaced bolt holes - choose 20/4 stambecco AS.

When will you need a stambecco made from steel?
- for extremely high pressure concentrated at one place. You will not find such condition in mountain bikes but in tandems or other special constructions.
- touring in an expedition-like way (Himalaya, Africa …)

Well, I must be happy to order at least 3rd time again this item, steel version. On the other hand there is very limited amount of manufacturers for 20T chainrings nowdays. Durability could be little more, but compared to old times when I was using aluminium Ritchey rings, these hold on one piece. Used Ritcheys in several pieces are nailed to my garage door as memorabilia as well as reminder. The material could be even more like hardened tool steel for more kilometers, as these develop a chainsuck over time as the tooth profile finally gives in. I'd say that third set of chains and cassettes are too much for this 20t ring. That must be pretty good result after all. For background, I'm 180cm / 70kg / 42yrs and go riding every year in Catalonian Pyrenees and national parks for the whole September if possible. My bike has still the old fashion 3 x 8 setup with Xtr derailleurs. Sram button shifters, chains and cassettes always used. 30t and 40t in addition to this 20t Stambecco in front for sensible shifting and gearing. This is the way to have maximum wide gearing range along with affordable chains and cassettes.... Since 2013, Mountain Goat 20t impact rings only. Best regards, Mr Antti Laine, Finland
